Teen Life Project: Introduction

Posted on January 21st, 2007 in Teen Life Project by jiwon

Hello! Well……. My name is Sarah, and I am thirteen years old. I am in 8th grade in an international school and I have been out from my own country for 2 years and half now. My life started on 20th of September, 1993, in South Korea. I was going to a normal Korean school until I was 9 years old when I moved to an English boarding school (still in Korea). I went there for about a year and half and finally when I was 10 and half years old, I moved to this international school that I still attend today.

My life here is just wonderful and lots of fun, too. I go to school on week days (talking to my friends and doing my school work), and I go to a tuition center from Monday to Friday. On the weekends, I hang around with my friends, go out for dinner with my family, go shopping with my friends or with my mom, do my homework, etc. etc. However, I sometimes feel boring, due to the fact that I have to do the same things everyday; wake up in the morning, go to school, do my Korean school work, go to a tuition center, practice my instrument, do my homework, etc.

I also feel stressful often from the pressure I get from school and all other things, and the fact that I hate the most about living in a foreign country like this is that my family can’t do things that they can in our own country such as meeting with our friends, to whom we can talk comfortably to. Of course we have friends here as well, but they are not exactly like the ones we have in Korea. During the holidays, when everyone at school can have fun and enjoy their lives, we either go to other places in different countries, or we back to Korea for like a month. Living in this country would not be anything like living in other countries like Columbia, Canada, and the United States.

I love to read a book on my bed while listening to my iPod, go shopping, gossip with other girls on the phone, spend time with my friends, and play any kinds of games. But here are some things I don’t really like: comic books, red peppers, spaghetti without meatballs, my brother who annoys me every 5 seconds, Novia when she talks about nonsense, Sai when she talks and doesn’t eat during lunch, Miki when she stresses out, Emma when she gives me ‘The Look’, etc. My biggest motto is this: Always be happy and smile.

Oops, I forget to mention about our school. So here we go: I have 8 classes and we take 4 classes each day, 1 and half hour each if there isn’t anything special. The 8 classes are: Exploratory (health, drama, art, or computer that changes every quarter), Algebra, Mandarin, Band, PE, Social studies, Science, and of course, English. I like all my classes, especially Algebra and English.

Lastly, the issues that I am interested in for the Teen Life Project. Well, there are many, many problems all around the Earth. And therefore, I am concerned about many things. First, poverty. I have been wondering since kindergarten, ‘Why are there so many poor people all over the world? Why are they starving to death when there are people, on the other hand, who are eating so much that we realize that we have to go on a diet?’ Yes, this is a serious problem. And obviously, everyone knows that. Then why not do something about it? Why are we just sitting here, doing nothing, and yet talk about poverty?

Secondly, terrorism. How did this all start? Why are there terrorists? For fun? Every time I asked myself those questions, I could not answer. I think terrorism is a big, big problem because terrorism is just so……. Dumb. (I don’t really like that word but there really isn’t a word to describe it.) Terrorism is forcing innocent people to die and it has to stop.

Next is pressure/stress. We, especially the students, receive so much pressure everyday from parents, teachers, peers, etc. I think this is a serious issue because too much pressure = too much stress = low self-esteem and low self-confidence = many people commit suicide, do drugs, etc.

Okay, so this is all I wanted to say. I apologize if the topics changed so randomly. I hope that now you have finished reading, you probably have learned some ideas about who I am and please feel free to comment on my blog.

Hi sarah, Well I am also interested in poverty. This is a very big problem were I live. There is too much people. Some times you see poor kids selling things at the streets. Its really sad to see so much people dying because of this and some people as you say need to do diet. I am also interested on other issue that is terrorism. This is very but very serious because here in my country things are going each day worst. There is a big group of people called guerrilla. They kill people, they also kidnapped kids and people to then ask for money so the kid can get home. They also put bombs on very important malls and biuldings. This problem is increasing each day this is very bad.

    Hi Sarah!
Katherine and I were recently at the wiki and noticed that you had a question in the same category as us. And our teacher has asked us to find people that have that, so we thought that you might be a good choice. Well we just thought that we would let you know this in case you would like to work with us on this topic.

Hi Sarah, I’m alexandra. It sounds like there are many people at your school that do things that bother you, here too, you have, well I won’t say names but there are many stupid fights between girls over who is the prttiest, and people talk way too much about other people behind their backs, so I have these friends, I won’t say who, but one talks bad about the other and I have to listen to it, then the other talks bad about the other one and who has to listen? me, so then I get bored, confused and stressed if you add that to homework, my sister, who may be the most annoying thing in the universe, and report cards that are coming soon, this hasn’t been my best year, well, it just started, but, anyway, you should comment on my blogger again, I really like seeing comments on my posts.

    Hey!

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I would like to get into contact with you, too. I am concerned about terrorism too. I never thought about writing about it on my blog, though, so thankfully you did. I always wonder why terrorism is even around too. They spend so much money on weapons and other things when they could be helping other people with the money. I hate stress, too. When I get stressed I get grouchy and it just doesn’t feel good.

I really like your motto: “Always be happy and smile.” It’s an excellent thing to go by. Also, when you mentioned about your brother bugging you every 5 seconds, I’ve always wondered what it’s like to have a sibling: I don’t have any siblings. I’ve always wanted an older brother, maybe 15 or 16 years of age.

Keep up the great blogging! :)

Hey Sarah! It’s alexandra again, you asked me to comment on my thoughts? Oh, my, God! There are too many, there are so many thoughts thatI find myself staring off into space about a million times a day and not sleeping at night just thinking, like today, I fell asleep in math class. Have you ever fallen asleep in class before?
